Discussion Meeting: Cold-Atom Based Quantum Simulators and Forthcoming Quantum Technology Applications | 30 March 2026 – 03 April 2026

  • The international discussion meeting “Cold-Atom Based Quantum Simulators and Forthcoming Quantum Technology Applications” was held at International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Bengaluru, from 30 March to 03 April 2026. The program was co-supported by FQCI, National Quantum Mission.
  • A key highlight of the meeting was distinguished lectures delivered by Prof. Ana Maria Rey (JILA, NIST, and University of Colorado Boulder, USA). Her lecture, “Optical Lattice Clocks: From Timekeepers to Spies of the Quantum Realm,” highlighted state-of-the-art quantum technologies enabling ultra-precise atomic clocks. She further presented “Ultracold Atoms as a Future Quantum Technology,” emphasizing the transformative role of ultracold neutral atoms in advancing quantum simulation, sensing, communication, and computation.
  • The program also featured insightful contributions from Prof. Saptarishi Chaudhuri (RRI Bengaluru) and Prof. Umakant Rapol (IISER Pune), who discussed recent progress in atom and ion-based quantum computing hardware being developed under the National Quantum Mission.
  • In addition to invited talks from leading experts across the UK, USA, Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan, the meeting provided a vibrant platform for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Through talks and poster presentations, they showcased cutting-edge developments in quantum technologies emerging from laboratories across India.
